Capnella imbricata (Kenya Tree Coral Fragment)

QUICK STATS
The Kenya Tree Coral, also referred to as a Cauliflower Soft Coral, Nephthea, or Nephthya, is similar to the members of both the Litophytonand Nephthea genera. It lives in a wide range of the Indo-Pacific. It has a thick trunk, like a tree, and many branches giving it an arboreal appearance.
It is not normally considered a threat to hard corals, but may itself be disturbed by their presence. The Kenya Tree Coral relies less on the symbiotic algae within it, and depends more on obtaining outside food. Microplankton, marine snow, and dissolved materials should make up the bulk of its diet.

New Sand Sifting Sea Star
The part we cut loose from the Kenya Tree to remove the small rock no seems to start living a life of its own. That’s why I decided to do a separate topic on it, to show the progress of this small fragment.

Back from vacation
Our very first own fragment has been separated since the first rebuild about three months ago. It has been pushed around many times since then, the biggest move was after we caught the Angelfish. It moved back to the sand where the mother coral once was. There the fish and/or hermits have tossed it over from time to time. But it’s still growing and still looking good.

Found out that it's not just some Capnella species but it is actually the Capnella Imbricata.

Cleaning november 2010
Still growing but it has some problems with being kicked around all the time by the fish/invertebrates.
