Source: Reeflex.net

  • Care Level: Easy
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Lighting: Strong
  • Waterflow: Moderate
  • Water Conditions: 75.2 °F - 82.4 °F (24°C - 28°C)

  • Origin: Bahamas, Florida, Karibik
  • Family:
  • Insert Date: 27 May 2010

The Encrusting gorgonian is specified as a member of the Gorgonie family. They can, under the right circumstances grow out to be a plague. It's easy to take care of, but needs much light and current. The brighter the lighting is the lighter the coral turns.

The current owner

Post  thierry on Tue May 25, 2010 9:49 am

Through one of the forums I'm member of (www.zeewaterforum.info) I came across this coral. Member Martin g sells them together with some other corals, even though it wasn't this one that caught my attention, but might be a nice option.
It's a fragment of his coral and costs 5 euro.

The picture is of his main colony, but to give an impression.

Bought the coral

Post  thierry on Fri May 28, 2010 12:17 pm

Yesterday we bought a fragment of gorgonian from martin g, unfortunately it didn’t open right away, so in the picture you can hardly see it and it’s still closed. But this morning it was opened a little already.

Back from vacation

Post  thierry on Fri Sep 17, 2010 12:19 pm

The Encrusting Gorgonian is also one that we have for 4 months. It first started taking over the small rock we got it on but now after we got back from vacation we noticed it also grew onto the rock behind it. It is doing very well and we are glad it does Smile

Cleaning november 2010

Still claiming more space, although it seems to be bothered a bit now by the Halimeda growing above it.

Happy New Year 2011

Removed many of the algae around it, that's why it looks so sad in the picture...it was shortly afterwards.

Sold Fragments

Post  thierry on Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:11 pm

Yesterday I have sold some fragments again. A member from the Zeewater Forum voor Nederland en België, called Bikerdick, wanted to buy the last Red Mushroom fragment and some Kenya Tree fragments.
When he saw the aquarium he also showed interest in other things, like the Encrusting gorgonian.

Quick Vacation Update

Post  thierry on Mon Aug 08, 2011 6:12 pm

And I removed the rock with Encrusted Gorgonian that we bought long time ago, all the coral has moved onto the other rocks now, so this gives more room in the corner.
